    Our Engineering team in Rochester, NY has an opening for a Machine Vision Automation Engineer. This exciting opportunity offers the ability to provide customer-focused engineering support to internal and external customers an be a part of advancing technology for the future.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Design and develop software algorithms and code in support of customer solutions, collaborating with other software developers to produce code as appropriate
    • Architect vision solutions including selection of the appropriate technology and components for an application
    • Design and develop appropriate user interface software as a front-end to vision applications
    • Work closely with the mechanical design, automation and controls and field service engineering teams during all phases of development, build, testing and deployment to ensure trouble-free execution
    • Develop and provide appropriate training and documentation materials as required
    • Make enhancements to existing installed base solutions, including implementing changes to existing code that may have been developed by others
    • Work closely with customers in delivering and supporting applications, support bug fixing and troubleshooting activity remotely or on customer premises
    • Attend in-office meetings as required, attend conference calls with team members, or in-office customer meetings in order to review the project status or the readiness for the application programming for an upcoming installation
    • Attend training or conferences as required for skilled training in the office or at a customer site
    • 10 to 20% Domestic travel required


    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
    • A minimum of three to five years of applicable work experience in the Engineering field is required
    • Prior Engineering work experience in the machine vision field is preferred
    • Familiarity with automation, robotics, PLC’s, SCADA, HMI, & Databases

    Knowledge Essential to the Position:

    • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with one or more major vision technology providers such as Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, SICK, Microscan, National Instruments
    • Familiar with related technologies such as lighting, lenses, cameras, and how/when to select the appropriate component for a solution
    • Exceptional programming and algorithm design and development skills in C#/.NET, PERL
    • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, modern source code control systems and software development collaboration tools and methods such as Team Foundation Server
    • Experience with PLCs:  Rockwell, Schneider a plus

    • Project Management skills in order to manage all aspects of small projects from start to finish
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills
    • Ability to self-train in order to quickly learn customer software and hardware preferences
    • Strong teamwork skills to identify the correct resources and effectively and efficiently communicate project needs
    • Ability to read and interpret specifications and plans to determine contract requirements

    Physical Requirements:

    • Able to lift up to 25lbs
    • Able to pick-up material at floor level and  lift items above shoulder height
    • Able to stand or kneel for 10-20 minutes as required
    • Ability to walk or stand for extending periods of time
    • Able to carry equipment with or without a cart, including a laptop and a tool bag
    • Ability to install minor equipment on existing systems, update/modify applications, and make changes to panels for electrical wiring
